History & Impact

Hello there! I am Emmanuel Kombi, the proud President and Founder of International Jumuiya. It brings me immense joy to share with you the remarkable journey that began on March 29th, 2022, right in the heart of Provo, Utah, and has now flourished in Buffalo, NY.

What started as a vision has evolved into a dynamic force for change, thanks to the dedication and passion of extraordinary individuals who joined me on this mission. Dinah Kibwe, Thomas Dunia, Daniel Begalwa, Osman Musse, and Chance Kibubuta have become integral parts of International Jumuiya, each embracing the mission to make a lasting impact on lives, foster growth, and create a brighter future.

International Jumuiya isn’t just an organization – it’s a vessel of impact. As a nonprofit dedicated to providing critical resources effectively and efficiently, it’s about lives, change, and the future. Our vision is to develop each student we encounter by providing mentorship programs and additional skills that can impact their communities through personal growth.

Beyond resource allocation, our commitment to shaping futures includes the launch of an after-school mentorship program and partnerships with esteemed organizations amplifying our reach and impact.

To nurture minds and spirits, we’ve introduced International Jumuiya Talk, bringing exceptional individuals with profound life experiences to engage with students. On May 26th, 2023, we proudly hosted our first speaker, Hayley Taylor Schlitz, who shared her journey of triumph over adversity. At just 20 years old, Hayley stands as the youngest Black American to graduate from a U.S. law school.

Our journey is far from over, and we invite you to be a part of it. Whether you’re a supporter, a partner, or a curious soul, together we can transform lives and communities. Keep an eye out for updates, events, and opportunities to get involved because, at International Jumuiya, we’re all about making a lasting difference.

With gratitude,
Emmanuel Kombi and the International Jumuiya Team

Systemic racism and generational poverty have hobbled so many communities of color and disproportionately placed additional burdens on their lives. The result is that parents and communities, who have the desire, spirit and capability to build a better future for their children, must struggle to overcome these immense challenges — often without the necessary support — in order to live opportunity-filled lives.

Why?

BRICK aims to build paths of opportunity for families living in underserved communities — with an initial focus on Newark — by building a comprehensive approach to eliminate academic achievement gaps, housing insecurity, health inequity, hunger and other systemic issues. Beginning this fall, BRICK will provide the same resources and support to a new school in Buffalo, New York.

What?

We do this through a holistic, coordinated approach that addresses the needs of both children and their caregivers across four core areas:

  • Education
  • Health & Wellness
  • Housing
  • Family Supports

How?

Our two-generation model has three core components:

  • Using the school as a convening institution for empowering local expert-partners
  • Deploying culturally relevant, data-informed solutions
  • Leveraging technology to ensure a tailored, coordinated approach

The development of each student that we encounter by following up and starting a mentorship program by providing additional skills to students that would impact their communities through their development.
